NPB010920 Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) Double Wall Wabbit Basket
Very beautiful well made Nuu-chah-nulth (Nootka) Wabbit Indian Basket. This type of basket was used for caring your dishes and left overs after Potlatch celebrations.
Design elements include, the hinkees head dress, the whale and the individual “runners” or scouts.
This basket is 12″ * 7″ wide at top and 9″ * 5″ on base. Handles are intact folded to inside.
It is 10″ tall. It is in great condition, very nice, crisp designs with no damage exhibiting normal use wear etc.
The basketry is done in in the closed wrapped twining technique, usually using the inner bark of the red cedar for the foundation warp and stationery weft, and using slough grass which can be dyed with natural or commercial dyes.
